Hi, I'm Jungu!
a linguistics student
...with focus on syntax, phonology and experimental linguistics (mostly fieldworks).
I'm currently working as a junior research assistant at the Chinese University of Hong Kong
(Sept 5th, 2023)
About
I am currently a learning/working linguist at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK).
I am interested in investigating the mapping between phonology and syntax; being able to find a link between the two is what I believe would be the concrete evidence supporting the existence of a more abstract system of human language that is shared amongst people.
Fields and subjects of interest
- Syntax
- Phonology
- Fieldworks
- DOMs and PNIs
- Tamang VP Ellipsis
- Korean NPIs
- Korean wh-elements

Project I
Are case-marked nouns and bare nouns actually identical?
What are some ways that nouns seem to behave different according to contexts?
In this project (with Michael Barrie), I focus on how the prosodic cues in the spoken languages can actually serve as an gateway to understanding a possible reduction in the nominal realms.
Languages in question
- Mongolian
- Uzbek

Syntax, Phonology, SPI

Project II
How does wh-elements interact with the CP layer?
If elements' position is not fixed and can be scrambled freely, how do we account for the licensing of this wh-element with the C head?
In this project, with Heeryun Chung, we investigate the possibility of prosodic licensing of wh-elements in Korean.

Off-Tangent
The posters/covers here are products of one of my hobbies--fiddling with Inkscape! (well it was Illustrator before but...)
It's a strictly need-to-know basis learning and toying around, so don't go looking into here for some state-of-the-art designs :D.

A work from a work
SICOGG24 was the first time I was involved comprehensively in the entire conference management, from minor stuffs such as contacting the poster company to designing/editting the whole posters and proceedings.

Blue Rose
It's not even blue, though
A leftover from my undergrad project of making an anthology book. If you might've noticed, yes the color scheme for this site is based on this design. I wouldn't say it's my favorite, but the color contrast is definitely one of my favorite.

The moon-eyed owl, stares.
Perhaps edgy, but my favorite. A random idea of putting the moon in a owl's eye gone completely right.

Are we alone together,
or are we together alone?
The design that was picked for the anthology project. I was fascinated with paper cut-outs (I still am kind of) and this was one of the better realization of my gravitations towards it.

The beginning of the hobby!
An used laptop with Illustrator installed on it. This was where it started for me.

Thank you for dropping by this site!
The whole site's my endeavor to build it myself instead of relying on other services, so the whole site might be a bit janky.
The good part is that, if there's something I can fix, I can!
So if you notice anything that could be improved, please feel free to contact me.
In fact, please help; my coding is a disaster,
please send helpppp
